A letter to the community...

May, 17, 2020

HELLO Artifact Community!
We hope you are staying safe and healthy and finding ways to see life with rose colored glasses. We miss you!! Who knew that in our lifetimes, we would live through a world event of this magnitude? This has been wild to say the least.

Artifact is still standing, and luckily, we’ve been able to seize the silver lining of this quarantine by taking this time to envision and implement what our dream store, shopping experience, and collective community looks like. We have some big changes underway! We are not ready to reopen yet, but believe us, you will be the first to know once we are.

Team Artifact slays our store renovation!

Artifact store renovations!

Changes to your shopping experience

To cope with these unprecedented times, there will be changes to how we shop and interact at the store safely. Per government orders, and per our own investment in our community’s health and well-being, we will implement a set of guidelines for shopping at the store. These guidelines will likely include:

  • Requiring face masks to enter the store

  • Maintaining a 6 ft distance while shopping and in line

  • Allowing a limited number of shoppers in the store at one time

  • Hand sanitizing like there’s no tomorrow

  • Taking our restroom out of service

If these are what our new norms have to be to be able to see everyone and stay safe, then we are here for them!

Changes to your selling experience.

We are currently figuring out the safest way to start buying again. We won’t beat around the bush. This pandemic has taken a financial toll on the store. In fewer words, as a “community bank” of sorts, without money coming in, there isn’t a way for money to go out either. Just as society is reopening in phases, so too will our buying practices.

Here are changes that will likely be part of our “Phase 1”:

  • We will start by only accepting items on consignment. This way, when we get paid, you also get paid.

  • Depending on the flow of merchandise we may limit the number of sellers per day, the amount that each seller can bring in, or set up scheduled appointments.

  • For our own safety, we will be wiping down all hard goods with disinfectant and will recommend you to launder textile goods before bringing them into the store.

A note for our consignors.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your consignment account or items, do not hesitate to reach out. Below you will find answers to a few questions that have arisen.

  • Know that all items currently in the store pre-quarantine, will get a new start date upon reopening, and will not become expired until 3 months after this new start date.

  • If you would like your consignment check to be mailed to you, please email the store with your current mailing address and we would be happy to do so.

  • As of right now, we are only taking in furniture and large home goods items by appointment only on Mondays and Tuesdays. If you have a large item you would like to consign please email us a photo to start the conversation. curbside pickup!

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we figure out how best to reopen. This is going to be a brand new world and we will all learn how to successfully maneuver in it together. In the meantime, head over to our online store,, to shop online with curbside pickup, and follow our local IG, @artifactpdxlocal, to stay in the loop. And when we do reopen (which will be soon, we promise!) we will all celebrate together!

Big virtual hugs to you and yours from Leah and the entire gang at Artifact.

Team Artifact misses you!
