Day of the Dead
Welcome to Artifact’s Day of the Dead altar. The Day of the Dead is a time of the year to celebrate our Ancestors, our loved ones, and our family members who have passed.
Traditionally Day of the Dead is celebrated on the 2nd of November based in Aztec ritual and tradition, but in our modern times we use the Altar to take an entire week to connect back with ourselves, our loved ones, and our communities.
Considering that this year has been a particularly difficult one for many, we are inviting our community at Artifact to take the time and reflect upon the altar we have created. Everything you see has a meaning and significance to us, from photos of our family and friends, to favorite foods we had shared with them.

We are incredibly thankful to our coworker and friend, Saylem, for sharing her beautiful heritage with the store's community through Artifact. Dia de Los Muertos is a significant cultural celebration to many families, including Saylem's, and we are proud to showcase a space to honor this tradition at Artifact Creative Recycle.
We invite you to join us…
If you have ever lost a friend or a loved one and have saved any Letters from/to them, shared any foods with them, or if you have any photos of them, you are welcome to leave a dedicated gift for them on our altar (examples include non perishable food, candy, cigarette boxes, and empty liquor bottles). You can also leave a message or gift to the larger global community for those who have suffered this year. (Please put your name and contact information on your gift to make sure it returns to you.)
The symbolism of Day of the Dead is held by many near and dear to their hearts as you may see some representation in our Altar:
The Monarchs are a symbol of immigration, because the Monarchs migrate between Mexico and the United States, they always make the journey back to Mexico around the time of Day of the Dead and are believed to represent the souls of loved ones who have passed.
Marigold flowers are traditionally known to light the way for our ancestors to find us and celebrate the day with us.
We make sure there is always food and water on our altars for the spirits to enjoy after the long journey they have taken to visit.
Dia de Los Muertos
Bienvenidos a la ofrenda de Artifact! EL Día de los Muertos es un tiempo del año para celebrar a nuestros ancestros, y a todas nuestros seres queridos y familia que han fallecido.
Tradicionalmente el Día de muertos se celebra el 2 de noviembre, y está basado en los rituales y tradiciones de los Aztecas. En nuestros tiempos modernos usamos la ofrenda para tomar una semana de autorreflexión, y reconectar con nuestros seres queridos y nuestra comunidad.
Considerando que este ha sido un año especialmente difícil para muchos, estamos invitando a nuestra comunidad aquí en Artifact, a que vengan y tomen tiempo y reflexionen en la ofrenda que hemos creado. Todo lo que ha sido puesto en la ofrenda tiene significado e importancia para nosotros, desde fotos de nuestra familia y amigos, hasta la comida favorita que compartimos con ellos.

Te invitamos a compartir con nosotros….
Si has perdido un amigo o un ser querido, eres bienvenido a dejar un regalo dedicado para ellos en nuestra ofrenda. Puedes poner en la ofrenda cartas para/de ellos; comida que hayas compartido con ellos, como por ejemplo: dulces, cigarros, o vacío botellas de licor); o si tienes fotos de ellos. (Queremos estar seguros de que sus fotos o regalos le serán devueltos. Por favor deje su nombre y/o una forma de contacto para regresar sus pertenencias cuando se recoja la ofrenda).
El simbolismo de Día de Muertos es llevado por muchos cerca de sus corazones, como lo puedes ver representado en nuestra ofrenda, por ejemplo:
Mariposas Monarcas: Las Monarcas son un símbolo de inmigración. Las Monarcas migran entre México y los Estados Unidos, y su retorno a México es durante el tiempo del Día de los Muertos. Se cree que las Monarcas llueven las almas de los seres queridos que han fallecido.
Cempazúchitl: Una flor que se ve muchos en las ofrendas son las Cempazúchitl. tradicionalmente dicen que la Cempazúchitl guía a nuestros ancestros para ayudarles a encontrarnos y celebrar el día con nosotros.
Comida y bebida: Finalmente la razón por la que se pone comida en la ofrenda es para que los muertos disfruten la comida que les gustaba comer durante su vida y también darles algo después de un largo viaje.
